More and more, sex is easily available to anyone in the western world, practically as a commodity. This is said to have a liberating effect, but does it? We investigate how our current economic logic changes how we experience love and intimacy. What is needed to achieve true sexual liberation? What are the conditions under which new ways of looking at love and intimacy can subvert our expectations of capitalist society?
Programme in English
Cassandra Troyan is a writer, organizer, and scholar whose work uses a materialist feminist lens to demarcate space for interventions in the spheres of theory, politics, and culture. Recent publications include Kill Manual (Artifice Books 2014) and A Theory in Tears (Annotations & Cases for Freedom & Prostitution) (Kenning Editions 2016). Currently they are writing with Maya Andrea Gonzalez on the intersections of sex work, (clean vs. dirty) money, state violence and the anti-trafficking movement under the purview of neoliberal ideology. They organize and speak on issues of criminality and sex worker rights with St. James Infirmary in San Francisco, CA.
Marije Janssen is an sex activist and educator. She organized the Get A Room movie nights in Utrecht and Amsterdam and the Hands On festival and has been writing, speaking and giving workshops about intimacy and sexuality for 10 years.
Harriet Bergman sometimes tells stories about intimacy, sex, and goldfish on stage, and is an activist and philosopher. She took courses in Women&Genderstudies at the San Francisco State University and is currently enrolled in the Research master in Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. She organizes Feminist poetry nights and gives lectures on Queertheory.
