This evening revolves around the poem as a space of subjective redefinition and (re)discovery. Poets are invited to reflect on their use of the "I" and to discuss how shifting conceptions of the self have influenced their work. How can a 'confessional poetics' explore the redefining of subjectivity?
Through their work, the poets are asked to participate in a dialogue on the lyric and multisensory exploration of the first-person subject, and how it's reacted to a world in flux.
Speakers
Mia You was born in Seoul, South Korea, grew up in Northern California, and now lives in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Her first full-length collection is I, Too, Dislike It (1913 Press, 2016), which Rachel Levitsky has called “a companion, an aria to bodily discomfort and impossibility.” She currently holds a position in the English Literature department at Utrecht University.
LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs from New York wrote the poetry collection TWeRK (2013) and several chapbooks. TWeRK is critical poetry about the hegemonic forces of language. In addition to being a poet, Diggs is also a sound artist, was an editorial member of online art magazine exittheapple and co-founded the magazine YoYo / SO4. Her interdisciplinary work has been exhibited in several museums in New York, including the MoMA.
